28 May NIS2 is coming: are you ready?
The new NIS2 directive is just around the corner and will have a major impact on companies in the Netherlands from the third quarter of this year. The tightened legislation requires not only increased digital resilience, but also structural organisational changes. Kappa Data helps you to be in regulation step by step.
What is NIS2?
The Network and Information Security Directive 2 is the successor to the 2016 NIS1 directive. Whereas the first version focused on a limited number of sectors, NIS2 expands the playing field considerably. Organisations in ICT, transport, food, healthcare, energy and digital infrastructure, among others, are now covered by the obligation. Suppliers of critical services are also included.
The goal? A harmonised European level of cybersecurity, with tougher requirements on risk management, incident response, business continuity and reporting.
What does this mean concretely for your organisation?
If you fall under NIS2, you are required to:
Identify and assess cyber risks
Take appropriate technical and organisational measures
Report incidents within 24 hours
Conduct regular audits, tests and assessments
Embed responsibility at board level
These obligations also apply to medium-sized enterprises (more than 50 FTEs or €10 million turnover) in relevant sectors. So there are many organisations that will soon be covered by the law, even though they do not expect it now.
